AUBURN, Wash. – Frank Lucarelli figured he’d have one of the leading 3-year-olds at Emerald this year with the speedy Trackattacker, but things haven’t worked out as planned. Trackattacker made just one start at the meeting before shipping out to California and, ultimately, to Arizona. But Lucarelli has a big crop of 3-year-olds. Even without Trackattacker, he’ll have three starters in the $50,000 Seattle Slew Handicap on Sunday.Lucarelli will saddle Percy Fawcett, who finished a fast-closing fourth in the one-mile Coca-Cola Handicap here in his last start, along with John’s Not Bluffin and Fire the Trainer, who finished first and third in a fast one-mile allowance race on the same day as the Coca-Cola. Lucarelli figures the Seattle Slew is ripe for the taking. “I think my horses fit as good as anybody,” he said. “Percy Fawcett had a little trouble last time or he would have been right on the money. John’s Not Bluffin has put back-to-back wins together, and we always thought he had a lot of potential.”John’s Not Bluffin rallied through the stretch to tag tiring front-runner Daytona Beach in his June 21 allowance victory, running a mile in 1:36.69. One race earlier, Thetrailerguy won the Coca-Cola Handicap in 1:36.80. Based on Beyer Speed Figures, John’s Not Bluffin should fit right in with stakes horses. “He’s a big horse who’s progressively gotten better and better,” Lucarelli said. “He’s one of those horses who’s just had to figure it out. He was quite a ways back in that last race – there was lots of pace – but he doesn’t need to be way back either. It’s interesting to see if he can move forward again because this stake is really wide open.”Lucarelli’s third entrant, Fire the Trainer, will be making his stakes debut Sunday. He finished less than two lengths behind John’s Not Bluffin in his last start and may have had an excuse.“He missed a week or two of training when he got an abscess, so I felt like he wasn’t going to give his best,” Lucarelli said. “But he came out of the race great and put in a good work. He could move forward, for sure. None of them are dominant horses, but any of the three could win with the right pace and setup.”
