On the Low Down, Blazing Navarone square off in Mountain Top Futurity

On the Low Down will attempt to win the second stakes race of his career Saturday, when he takes on the undefeated Blazing Navarone in the $141,382 Mountain Top Futurity at Ruidoso Downs. The five-furlong race is for 2-year-olds bred in New Mexico.
On the Low Down is the most accomplished member of the 10-horse field as the winner of the $147,196 Copper Top Futurity in April at Sunland Park. Blazing Navarone has won both of his career starts, including one of two trials held for the Mountain Top. The cast also includes Wheredoesthecashgo, a half-brother to both 2015 Mountain Top winner Diabolical King and three-time stakes winner Liberty Lover.

* On the Low Down has raced once since the start, finishing second by a nose in his Mountain Top trial June 9 at Ruidoso. The race was won by Storm the Beach, who also returns for the finale Saturday.
* On the Low Down is one of three starters in the field for trainer Todd Fincher, who also sends out the fillies Western Style and Gone Shoppin, whose dam, Glory Be Mine, won five stakes races and earned $426,918.
* On the Low Down will break from post 10 under regular rider Tracy Hebert. He races for the partnership of Dale Taylor, Bobby J. McQueen, and Suzanne Kelly.

* He won his debut in a maiden special weight for New Mexico-breds April 16 at Sunland Park, then one start later won his trial for the Mountain Top on June 9. Blazing Navarone rallied from off the pace in the five-furlong race, winning by 1 1/2 lengths at Ruidoso.
