Lovingier reducing broodmare band

California owner and breeder Terry Lovingier is reducing his racing and broodmare holdings through a digital sale conducted by Fasig-Tipton.
The online auction, which began on Thursday and continues through Tuesday, includes 37 horses owned by Lovingier, primarily broodmares.
Lovingier said on Thursday the sale will allow him to reduce his holdings to approximately 50 mares.
“I’ve got a ton of broodmares,” he said. “I’m not going anywhere. I need to cut down a few.”

The consignment includes Fi Fi Pharoah, a 4-year-old American Pharoah filly who won the 2021 Melair Stakes for California-bred fillies at Santa Anita and sells as a broodmare prospect, and At the Spa, a two-time stakes winner in sprint stakes for 2-year-olds in 2021 who sells in foal to Stay Thirsty.
Stay Thirsty stands at Lovingier’s Lovacres Farm in California and leads the state’s stallions in progeny earnings.
Lovingier remains active as an owner at Del Mar, although through Wednesday was still seeking his first win of the meeting.
“It’s been a tough meeting for me,” he said. “We’ve had issues trying to keep horses sound. The competition at Del mar is so intense.”
Lovingier is active in the commercial yearling market. At the Northern California yearling sale in Pleasanton on Aug. 17, Lovingier had a consignment of 26 yearlings, with 23 listed as sold for prices ranging from $24,000 to $1,500.
At the Fasig-Tipton California yearling sale in Pomona on Sept. 27, Lovingier has consigned 34 yearlings, one of the largest offerings of the one-day auction.
Catalogs for the Sept. 27 sale were recently published.
