Love to Tell wins first stakes

Jeff Taylor|Jun 21, 2008

BOSSIER CITY, La. - Love to Tell continued her rise to prominence on grass as she made her first stakes try a winning one in Saturday's $50,000 Little Treasure Stakes at Louisiana Downs. Even-money favorite Euphony finished second, 2 1/4 lengths back, followed Oh Baby Oh Baby and Oh Lovely.

Trained by Mike Burgess, Love to Tell ($15.60) won her maiden while making her first grass start at Lone Star Park last month after three unsuccessful tries on dirt. The 3-year-old daughter of Stage Colony finished a troubled third in her next start against allowance foes, also on grass, before picking up her second win on Saturday.

Confidently handled by Larry Taylor, Love to Tell covered the 7 1/2 furlongs in 1:30.16 over firm going and the $30,000 winner's share of the purse increased her earnings to over $42,000.

* In the $50,000 Temperence Hill Stakes for 3-year-olds and upward at six furlongs on the main track, longshot Greeley's Conquest ($47.60) staged a furious late rally under Quincy Hamilton to beat odds-on favorite Wind Water in the waning strides. Cougar Cat finished third followed by Sumfun.

Greeley's Conquest won for the fifth time from 13 starts for trainer Gary Thomas and for the first time since capturing the Prairie Mile at Prairie Meadows over a year ago. The 4-year-old Mr. Greeley colt covered the six panels in 1:09.46 over a fast strip has now earned over $190,000.

* It was back to the turf course for the $50,000 Pair of Deuces Stakes for 3-year-olds. Lone Star Special ($8.60) helped set the pace before shaking clear and then holding runner-up Lee's Spirit safe late. Pursue a Dream rallied for third with Mogumbo Cat reporting home fourth.

The winner, trained by Danny Pish, picked up his second stakes victory after accounting for the Incredible Ease here last month. Hamilton won his second stakesevent of the afternoon in the saddle. The final time for the 7 1/2 furlongs was 1:30.43.
