ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Favored Love Cervere outran another American shipper adding Lasix, It Ain’t Two, and landed the $100,000 Alywow Stakes with ease at Woodbine on Saturday.
Flaunt went straight to the lead in the 6 1/2-furlong main turf sprint and Love Cervere took up the chase in second under Eric Cancel.
Love Cervere drew alongside Flaunt early in the stretch and then assumed command at the three-sixteenths pole before drawing off to prevail by 2 1/2 lengths over a troubled It Ain’t Two. Flaunt faded to third and was followed by Personify, Social Code, American Woman, Bound to Be True and Arctic Velocity.
“I had a wonderful position coming out of the gate,” Cancel said. “I was very happy where I was. I didn’t want to get in her way, so I just let her do her thing. She really liked the track. Once we turned for home, she fired up and she went on with it.”
Love Cervere was making her first start for trainer Miguel Clement after annexing the May 10 Take the A Train Stakes at Aqueduct for his late father, Christophe.
Over a course labeled good, Love Cervere ($5.60) covered the distance in 1:15.46. The daughter of leading sire Into Mischief collected $60,000 for the partnership of Edward Seltzer, Beverly Anderson and Reeves Thoroughbred Racing.
