Louisville TV station wins Eclipse

A documentary about the 1978 rivalry between Affirmed and Alydar produced by WAVE3-TV in Louisville, Ky., has been selected for the 2008 Eclipse Award for local television programming, the National Thoroughbred Racing Association announced on Monday.

The 30-minute documentary, titled "A Legend Re-Affirmed - The 1978 Triple Crown," aired on May 1, 2008. The executive producer of the piece was Lee Eldridge, the news director for WAVE. The lead reporter and writer was Caton Bredar, and the chief photographer and editor was Reid Olson. Drew Cook was post-production editor, and the art director was Rhonda Harshfield.

Honorable mention went to CTV-Alberta and Horse Racing Alberta for their coverage of the Ky Alta Stakes, which aired on July 1, 2008.
