Louisiana Downs: Roberts holding two aces for Harrah's Futurity

Mary Rampellini|Mar 16, 2012

Trainer Kenneth Roberts, a longtime leading Quarter Horse trainer in Louisiana, has two capable fillies in Sunday’s $221,640 Harrah’s Futurity at Louisiana Downs. The 300-yard race for 2-year-olds will go with a field of 10.

Roberts will be represented by Jetblack Gold Moment, who rallied to win her trial March 3, and Classic Patriot, who in her trial was second to fastest qualifier Wave Cover. The Roberts horses both race for Mercy Hinklins Horse Farm and will be coupled.

Jetblack Gold Moment is a January foal who was making her career debut during the seven races of trials held for the Harrah’s Futurity. She raced in fourth early then darted home to win by three-quarters of a length, covering 300 yards in 15.52 seconds. She was the 3-5 favorite. Danny Lavergne was aboard for the win and has the mount in the finale.

Classic Patriot finished a half-length behind Wave Cover, who won the trial in a fastest-qualifying 15.49. Classic Patriot’s time was 15.56. John Hamilton has the mount on Classic Patriot.
