Louisiana Downs notes: Free shuttle service for horses

Mary Rampellini|May 29, 2012

Louisiana Downs will be offering a free shuttle service from the Evangeline Downs Training Center in Lafayette, La., to the Bossier City, La., track on Sundays. The shuttle is for horses racing at Louisiana Downs on Sundays, and is being offered for the month of June.

“This is something we decided to try in an effort to maximize field size here at Louisiana Downs,” Trent McIntosh, the track’s director of operations, said via e-mail. “Louisiana Downs is the only track in the state racing on Sundays, and we would like to see if offering a free shuttle service on that day will lead to more participation from horsemen based in south Louisiana. We are hopeful this will create an additional racing option for owners and trainers.”

There is limited space on shuttles. Further information is available from Desiree Goetz at (318)564-4743.

Star Guitar likely to Evangeline

Star Guitar, who became the richest Louisiana-bred in history with his win in the $90,000 Costa Rising at Fair Grounds on April 1, could make his next start in the $100,000 Louisiana Legends Classic at Evangeline Downs in Opelousas, La., said his trainer, Al Stall Jr.

“Star’s good,” he said. “We’re leaning toward running at Evangeline on June. 30.”

Star Guitar races for Brittlyn Stable. He has won his last nine starts in a streak dating back to the $150,000 Louisiana Champions Day Classic at Fair Grounds in December 2010. Star Guitar has earnings of $1,689,862

* Kelly’spremonition, who has registered six of his seven career wins over the turf course at Louisiana Downs, leads the track’s featured seventh race Thursday. The first-level allowance for 3-year-olds and up will be run at a mile on turf, and it has a field of nine. Kelly’spremonition was fourth at this level last out in his first race since September. Juan Larrosa has the mount for trainer Kenny Hargrave.
