The Louisiana Cup Day card of six stakes for Louisiana-breds will return to Louisiana Downs on Aug. 21 after a collective effort among the Bossier City, La., track, the Louisiana Thoroughbred Breeders Association, and the Louisiana Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association. The stakes were not originally on the schedule for 2021, but track officials were hopeful the races would be able to be held this meet.   “Louisiana Cup Day is a great day for the breeders in our state and fans at Louisiana Downs to see some of the top Thoroughbreds in Louisiana,” David Heitzmann, director of racing for Louisiana Downs, said in a press release. “The day would not be possible without the support of Ed Fenasci, executive director of the HBPA, and Roger Heitzmann, executive director of the LTBA. We look forward to presenting an excellent card on August 21.” First post for Louisiana Cup Day will be 2:45 p.m. Central. The card will include a pair of stakes for 2-year-olds, a pair of sprint stakes for 3-year-olds and up, and a pair of turf route stakes for 3-year-olds and up.
