Louie the Sun King looks to continue Tapeta success
Louie the Sun King could go favored Friday when he makes his first start against older rivals in the featured eighth race at Gulfstream Park.
A field of 10 has signed on for the first-level allowance for 3-year-olds and up bred in Florida. It will be run over 5 1/2 furlongs on Tapeta.
Louie the Sun King has stepped up his game since moving to the synthetic track. He won a $35,000 starter allowance on Tapeta in May, and has come back and run second in two subsequent starts on the surface, on June 28 and July 28.
Those races came against straight 3-year-olds, but he will be facing older rivals Friday. However, seven in the field are 3 and he owns the field’s best last-race Beyer Speed Figure, an 82.
Luca Panici has the mount for trainer Kathleen O’Connell.
