Lots of speed in Reed Memorial

Baime, Frisky Warrior, and Breakin the Fever are all quick and have excellent records at Finger Lakes. The three will meet Friday in the $50,000 Leon Reed Memorial, a six-furlong stakes for New York-breds.
Breakin the Fever, who is 5 for 7 at Finger Lakes, is extremely fast. A 3-year-old trained by Debra Breed, he had won four of his previous five starts coming into his last race, with his only loss coming at 1 1/16 miles in the New York Derby. He quickly opened up a clear lead in the Sept. 19 no-conditions allowance race, but Frisky Warrior ran by him in midstretch and pulled away to win by 2 3/4 lengths. The final furlong was a somewhat slow 12.98 seconds.
Frisky Warrior, a 6-year-old who is 15 for 26 at Finger Lakes, likely will use the same stalk-and-pounce strategy here. He could be favored for trainer Ralph D’Alessandro off the 93 Beyer Speed Figure he earned while defeating Breakin the Fever.
Baime, 7 for 13 at Finger Lakes, has made his last two starts around two turns. Trainer Michael Ferraro will shorten Baime up Friday, and he should show a stronger finish. Baime, 5, defeated Frisky Warrior by 1 1/4 lengths in a Finger Lakes allowance sprint in July as the 3-5 favorite. He also beat him in a June allowance race.
There should be a blazing pace in the Reed Memorial. If the speed tires, Geaux Mets may be the one to pick up the pieces for trainer Jeremiah Engelhart.
