Los Alamitos will conduct an eight-race mixed-breed program as scheduled on Sunday evening, a day after the track’s Saturday program was canceled out of concern of a potential chemical spill at a nearby aerospace facility. The track announced early Sunday afternoon that racing would proceed. First post time is 5:45 p.m. Eastern. The decision to race on Sunday was based on approval from the Orange County Fire Authority to resume “day-to-day activities” outside of an evacuation zone near the aerospace facility, the track said in a statement. Approximately 40,000 people in communities near Los Alamitos were ordered to evacuate their homes on Friday out of caution that a potential spill could cause a fire or release toxic fumes. The western perimeter of the evacuation zone was approximately a mile from the track. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering? Check out DRF's Handicapping 101 and Wagering 101 pages.
