Los Alamitos: Foose Cash Sr upsets Two Million
CYPRESS, Calif. - Foose Cash Sr scored an upset win in Sunday’s $1,989,525 Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity, giving trainer Jose de la Torre a sweep of the weekend’s two major Quarter Horse races.
Saturday, De la Torre won the $750,000 Champion of Champions with Last to Fire.
Foose Cash Sr ($52.80) broke from the inside under jockey Francisco Rubio. The gelding led by a half-length midway through the race and won by three-quarters of a length over 8-5 favorite Viva Mi Corazon. A Corona Sunset, a 28-1 longshot, finished third in the field of 10.
Foose Cash Sr ran 400 yards in 19.60 seconds. By Foose, Foose Cash Sr has won 3 of 7 starts and earned $819,670 for De la Torre and his brother Gustavo, breeder Anselmo Aguilar, and San Gregorio Racing Stable.
The Los Alamitos Two Million, the track’s richest race, was the first stakes win for Foose Cash Sr. He was last of 10 in the Governor’s Cup Futurity at Los Alamitos in late July. Foose Cash Sr was gelded following that race.
Gustavo de la Torre said that Foose Cash Sr is nominated to several of the major derbies at Los Alamitos in 2014, and will be given a break this winter.
