Los Alamitos cancels Sunday program due to rain
Los Alamitos canceled a 10-race program for Sunday evening on race morning, citing the excessive rain in Southern California of recent days.
The program was scheduled to include two Quarter Horse stakes – the $35,000 Denim N Diamonds Handicap for fillies and mares at 400 yards, and the $87,750 Maiden Stakes at 350 yards.
The races will be rescheduled for the weekend of March 4-5, the track said in a statement.
The cancellation means that no live racing was held in Southern California over the weekend. Santa Anita earlier in the week canceled three programs for Friday through Sunday. Los Alamitos cancelled its Saturday program earlier in the week.
The track cited wet conditions. California tracks are discouraged from racing during or immediately after inclement weather, following policies enacted by the California Horse Racing Board in late 2020.
Los Alamitos operates a year-round night meeting for Quarter Horses and lower-level Thoroughbreds on Saturdays and Sundays. Racing will resume on Saturday.
Santa Anita will resume its Thoroughbred meeting on Friday.
