Los Alamitos adds Dark Mirage Stakes on Sept. 19

Los Alamitos has added a $75,000 stakes for fillies and mares at a mile to the Sept. 19 program, the track announced on Thursday.
The Dark Mirage Stakes has a $50 nomination fee due on Wednesday, with $250 supplemental nominations due on Thursday when entries are taken.
“If we get five or six horses, we’ll use it,” racing secretary Bob Moreno said.
The track has struggled to fill stakes in early days of the three-week county fair meeting. The $75,000 Beverly Lewis Stakes for 3-year-old fillies was scheduled for Saturday, but failed to draw sufficient entries and was canceled.
Moreno said Los Alamitos will offer two $56,000 allowance races for California-bred 2-year-olds at 5 1/2 furlongs next weekend, one open race and one for fillies.

The races, a late addition to the schedule, will not have restricted conditions, and are designed as preps for two $175,000 races for statebred 2-year-olds at seven furlongs – the Golden State Juvenile and Juvenile Fillies at Del Mar on Nov. 5.
