Lord Rosberg should be primed in second start off layoff

Bret Anderson came up with a strong card for the final Saturday of the Emerald Downs meet that concludes Sunday. Anderson, the track’s director of racing, is pleased with the way the year went.
“It’s been a good meet and something we can build on,” said Anderson. “We had more and better horses to draw from, and it showed. We ran more races, and both the field size and handle were up.”
Sharing the spotlight on the 11-race card are a couple of non-conditional allowance races.
Lord Rosberg, a multiple stakes winner as a 2-year-old, figures to move forward in his second start this season in a one-mile allowance race for 3-year-olds.
Scat Daddybaby could be gone if she breaks on top in race 10. He earned a 98 Beyer Speed Figure when he romped in a one-mile, non-conditional allowance race Aug. 16 and won’t mind the cutback in distance in the 6 1/2-furlong sprint for 3-year-olds and up that drew seven horses.
Race 8
KEY CONTENDERS
Lord Rosberg (Last 3 Beyers: 46-63-61)
◗ He won three of his four starts as a 2-year-old for trainer Pat Jarvis at Hastings, including the $100,000 Jack Diamond Futurity.
◗ It wasn’t surprising that he came up short when he returned from a long layoff in his first start this year in the $60,000 Canadian Thoroughbred Horse Society Sales Stakes on Sept. 7. He was in the 1 1/16-mile race until the eighth pole, however, and should be a lot tighter with a race behind him.
◗ He can stalk and should get a nice trip sitting off suspect speed in his first start for trainer Roddina Barrett.
Awesome Indian (Last 3 Beyers: 75-62-84)
◗ The Tom Wenzel trainee is questionable at the distance, but he will be the one they have to catch and could take them all the way if Rocco Bowen can get him to ration his substantial speed.
RACE 10
key contenders
Scat Daddybaby (Last 3 Beyers: 98-77-84)
◗ After not being able to keep up with Stryker Phd in three straight stakes, he appreciated the class relief when he faced substantially easier company in his latest.
◗ The only concern is that trainer Robert Baze scratched him, reportedly due to a bruised foot, when it looked like he had a big shot to win the $50,000 S.W. Randall Plate at Hastings on Sept. 13.
Botch (Last 3 Beyers: 47-86-78)
◗ Trained by Blaine Wright, he was no match for Scat Daddybaby in his latest, but he can stalk, and there is a plethora of speed in the field.
