Lord Nelson rerouted to Bay Shore

Trainer Bob Baffert said Lord Nelson will not start in Sunday’s $800,000 Sunland Park Derby in New Mexico and will be pointed for the $300,000 Bay Shore Stakes at seven furlongs at Aqueduct on April 4.
Lord Nelson was fourth in the Grade 2 San Felipe Stakes at Santa Anita on March 7. Baffert decided to skip the Sunland Park race after watching Lord Nelson train Thursday. Lord Nelson had already been entered for the Sunland Park Derby but did not leave California.
Lord Nelson has won 3 of 6 starts and earned $273,571. He has won two sprint stakes at Santa Anita – the Speakeasy Stakes at six furlongs last October and the Grade 2 San Vicente Stakes at seven furlongs Feb. 1.
◗ Bayern, the winner of the Breeders’ Cup Classic last November, worked five furlongs in 59.80 seconds Friday, moving closer to his 2015 debut. Bayern was expected to run in the Grade 2 San Antonio Stakes on Feb. 7 before he was sidelined in January with a sore foot. Baffert has not stated a comeback race for Bayern.
