Lord Miles breezed four furlongs in 49.50 seconds late Friday morning at Palm Meadows, his first work since being scratched from the Kentucky Derby by Churchill Downs officials following the sudden deaths of two of his stablemates in races run at the track during the first two cards of the current meeting.  Lord Miles, who earned his way into the Derby lineup by virtue of his upset victory in the Grade 2 Wood, shipped back to South Florida earlier this week along with the rest of trainer Saffie Joseph Jr.’s horses who were stabled at Churchill Downs at the time of the incidents. Joseph said early Friday afternoon that while it was not totally out of the question, it was “very unlikely” Lord Miles would make his next start a week from Saturday in the Preakness. :: Get ready to bet the Preakness! Join DRF Bets and score a $250 Deposit Match + $10 Free Bet + Free PPs - Promo code: WINNING “The Preakness was never really a target for us anyway,” said Joseph. “Especially after he had to travel all the way back from Kentucky. That’s why I didn’t want him to do too much this morning. Right now I’m thinking we’ll get two or three more works in him here, then come up with a plan. The Belmont is probable, although everything is on the table at the moment.” :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering? Check out DRF's Handicapping 101 and Wagering 101 pages.
