ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Favored Loon Cry survived a claim of foul to win Saturday’s $127,500 Sweet Briar Too Stakes for fillies and mares at Woodbine.
Based in New York with trainer Christophe Clement, Loon Cry shipped here to win a seven-furlong allowance June 15. She then cut back to six furlongs on the main turf in the Sweet Briar Too and rallied wide from well off a fast pace to score by a length over Blind Spot. Queen Macha rallied outside for third in a field reduced to 10 with the scratch of morning-line favorite Queen of the Mud.
The rider of fourth-place finisher Gastown Babe claimed foul on Loon Cry for interference in the stretch, which was disallowed by the stewards.

It was the eighth stakes win of the meet for leading jockey Sahin Civaci, who had never ridden the 4-year-old before.
“I spoke with Mr. Clement this morning,” Civaci said. “She’s a horse who comes off the pace, so that’s what we decided on. There was quite a bit of speed throughout the race. I was just sitting comfortable at the back, watching everything unfold. When it was time, I angled her out and she kicked on. She was drifting in a little bit, but I was clear of everybody. She finished up strongly.”
Loon Cry ($5.10) covered the distance over firm ground in 1:09.11. The daughter of More Than Ready collected $75,000 in her first stakes victory for Waterville Lake Stables.
