Lookin At Lucky can add to credentials in Travers

The 3-year-old divisional picture remains wide open heading into this Saturday’s Runhappy Travers Stakes. None of the 12 entrants in the field, which is absent this year’s three American classic winners, has won a Grade 1 race.

But sire Lookin At Lucky has been a consistent presence in this division and will have a chance to take down another of its major events Saturday.
Lookin At Lucky, who stands for Coolmore, is the sire of Country House, who was elevated to victory in the Kentucky Derby. He will be represented by longshot Looking At Bikinis in the Travers. Looking At Bikinis won his first two starts, which came at Belmont Park, before finishing third in the Curlin Stakes last month at Saratoga.
Lookin At Lucky has continued to build off his career year in 2018, when he was represented by Breeders’ Cup Classic winner and Eclipse Award champion Accelerate. The stallion ranks 14th among living North American stallions on the general sires earnings list and is poised for a big day Saturday, which could move him up the list. In addition to Looking At Bikinis, he is expected to be represented in Grade 1 action on the Saratoga card by Wow Cat in the Personal Ensign Stakes and Diamond Oops in the Forego Stakes. Wow Cat, one of several champions in Chile for Lookin At Lucky, was second in last fall’s Breeders’ Cup Distaff. Diamond Oops is coming off a second in the Grade 1 Alfred G. Vanderbilt at Saratoga.
