Steve Elzey, a jockey agent for more than 40 years, was found dead early Wednesday in his apartment near Tampa Bay Downs, according to track officials and other sources. Elzey, 64, rode races on the Illinois fair circuit in the 1960s before booking mounts for scores of riders in the eastern half of the U.S., including Willie Martinez, Rafael Bejarano, Kris Prather, and Samy Camacho. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 11, at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur, Ind. Burial will follow at Decatur Cemetery. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, March 10, at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur, and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the funeral home. Elzey is survived by a son, Michael; mother, Maxine Brewster of Decatur; two sisters, Rhonda Dailey of Berne and Tammy (Brett) Colbart of New Haven; brother, Todd Elzey of Decatur; seven nieces and nephews; and four great-nephews.
