Longshots Hogans Holiday, Silent Citizen upset in turf stakes

It was bombs away at Gulfstream Park West with longshots winning both stakes races on Saturday.
First up was the $75,000 Cellars Shiraz where Hogans Holiday rallied to edge Go Noni Go by a nose in the one-mile turf race for 3-year-old fillies. She paid $82.40. The $1 exacta paid $223.30, and with Florida Fuego finishing third, the 50-cent trifecta paid $772.60.
Running over firm turf, the Kentucky-bred daughter of The Factor posted a final time of 1:37.26.
She was ridden to her first stakes win by Leonel Reyes for trainer Marcus Vitali.
Acting on behalf of John Grossi’s Racing Corp., Vitali had claimed her for $40,000 at Saratoga on Aug 23.
Silent Citizen paid $42.80 for his half-length victory over 12-1 Linburgh’s Kitten in the $75,000 Showing Up Stakes. Gemonteer finished third at 10-1 in the one-mile race on turf for 3-year-olds. The $1 exacta paid $246.40 with the 50-cent trifecta paying $1,579.15.
The final time was 1:36.76.
The Kentucky-bred son of Hat Trick is trained by Efren Loza Jr. and was ridden by Manoel Cruz.
He is owned by W. Mike Anderson.
