Nikki Sherman/Equi-Photo Capo (left) paid $48 to win after poking his head in front approaching the wire in the Pennsylvania Nursery.

Capo was the boss in Tuesday's $100,000 Pennsylvania Nursery for 2-year-olds at Parx Racing.

Owned and trained by Jacinto Solis, Capo settled into a three-wide position off pacesetters Factor U and Me In and Twilight Dancer as those two traded the lead through fractions of 23.46 and 47.34 seconds in the seven-furlong race.

Longshot Factor U and Me In was the first to toss in the towel, and jockey Kendrick Carmouche urged Capo outside of Twilight Dancer turning into the stretch.

Twilight Dancer was game while closest to the rail, but Capo had momentum and Carmouche drove him home to prevail by a nose after seven furlongs in 1:27.75 over a fast track.

It was another 2 1/4 lengths back to Notice of Action in third. He was followed by Sharp Tones, 6-5 favorite Uncle Heavy, Kelly's Kidz, Factor U and Me In, Don Tequlias, and Heavy Pour.

Our Andrew B, Missileer, Ridley Park, and Point Pelee were scratched.

Capo returned $48 to win as the seventh wagering choice in the nine-horse field.

The two betting favorites had varying degrees of trouble.

Uncle Heavy missed the break badly after jumping from the inside post. He raced raced wide leaving the backstretch and never threatened.

The 2-1 second choice, Notice of Action, previously unbeaten in three starts, raced in between horses on the backstretch, was stuck in a tight rail pocket through midstretch, then finished evenly while racing on his wrong lead.

Capo finished fourth in his career debut on Aug. 9 over the Tapeta surface at Presque Isle Downs. That statebred maiden special weight was won by subsequent Parx stakes winner Gamboling Ghost.

Solis claimed Capo from trainer Larry Rivelli for $20,000 out of his second start, a gate-to-wire victory at Churchill Downs on Nov. 2.

Bred in Pennsylvania by A1A Racing, Capo is a gelded son of Peace and Justice. He now has lifetime earnings of $94,020.
