HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – As dusk neared Sunday evening, most gamblers had their attention on the impending Super Bowl kickoff. That’s right about when someone pulled off quite a coup, taking down the entire Rainbow 6 pool for a whopping $810,713 with the lone perfect ticket.

Gulfstream officials said the ticket was purchased through a wagering hub in Maryland. The jackpot had not been swept in 14 prior racing days and had grown to $572,495 through Saturday, whereupon another $297,827 in wagers was added.

Into the final leg, the 12th race, only two horses were alive for a solo sweep, with one of them, Red Parasol, prevailing under Edgard Zayas.

The odds on the winners in the sequence were 6-1, 7-2, 10-1, 18-1, 5-2, and 4-1, and the winning numbers were 5-5-2-8-8-7.

Saez has four winners

Jockey Luis Saez continues to enjoy an outstanding winter at Gulfstream. The 24-year-old native of Panama rode four winners Sunday to give him a 60-49 lead over Paco Lopez at a championship meet that began Dec. 3 and runs through April 2.

The Sunday winners were Lenstar ($4.80) in the third, Be My Baby ($42.20) in the fourth, Rilla ($6) in the fifth, and Summer Reading ($9.20) in the eighth.

◗ All-sources handle on a 12-race Saturday card that ended with the Holy Bull was more than $19.7 million, up 16 percent over the corresponding day last year. Gulfstream officials are ecstatic with how vibrant their business has been at this meet. A track-record $40.2 million was handled Jan. 28 on the inaugural Pegasus World Cup program.

◗ Joining most other North American tracks, Gulfstream Park has lowered its minimum increment on rolling pick-three wagers from $1 to 50 cents, effective Wednesday. Track officials said customer demand was a deciding factor in the change, along with uniformity with other 50-cent wagers such as trifectas, pick fours, and pick fives. The New York Racing Association remains among the few jurisdictions maintaining a $1 minimum for pick threes.
