Lone Star will host 'rehoming' program for Thoroughbreds
The Texas Thoroughbred Association is putting on a “rehoming” event July 11 at Lone Star Park. The Roses to Ribbons Old Fashioned Horse Fair is a chance for owners and trainers to present racehorses nearing the end of their careers to an assembled group of about 200 buyers. The potential new owners are looking for horses to use in other disciplines or for pleasure. The first such event was held this spring at Sam Houston.
The racehorses available will be showcased at 11 a.m. in the paddock at Lone Star. There also will be a tack swap. For more information, contact the racing office at Lone Star.
◗ Oaklawn has begun construction on a new barn that replaces one of its oldest barns, the track announced. The new facility will be completed for next winter’s meet. It replaces Barn No. 2. Oaklawn names many barns after horses, but a name for the structure has not been announced. The project also calls for removing an old maintenance building, which will make for additional parking spaces for patrons and lead to a repositioned horse gap for entrance to the track.
◗ Mark Frissora on Wednesday took over as president and chief executive f Caesars Entertainment, the organization announced. Caesars is the parent company of Louisiana Downs and ThistleDown.
