Lone Star: Steve Sexton Mile tops $2.9 million stakes schedule
The Grade 3, $400,000 Steve Sexton Mile will again anchor the Lone Star Park stakes schedule that was announced Thursday.
In all, there will be 21 stakes worth a total of $2.9 million. The 44-date meet opens April 13 and runs through July 4.
Purses are projected to average $260,000 per card, according to the press release from Lone Star.
The Steve Sexton Mile, which is for 3-year-olds and up, will anchor Lone Star Million Day on the Memorial Day card May 29. Million Day will be comprised of six stakes worth a total of $1.2 million. The card includes the $300,000 Texas Derby at 1 1/16 miles and the $200,000 Ouija Board Distaff for fillies and mares at one-mile on turf.
Lone Star will put on a Summer Turf Festival on June 24. There will be four stakes worth a cumulative $750,000. The $300,000 Texas Turf Classic is for 3-year-olds and up at 1 1/8 miles, while another highlight is the $150,000 Wasted Tears for fillies and mares at 1 1/16 miles on turf.
Lone Star Showcase Day of five restricted stakes worth $375,000 is June 3, and the Stars of Texas Day card of five restricted sakes worth $525,000 is July 1.
