Lone Star Park Racing Club trying to stay perfect at meet

The Lone Star Park Racing Club will attempt to extend its record to 3 for 3 at this meet on Friday night, when Fred’s Lucky Boy makes his first start for the group. He goes in the opener, a five-furlong turf sprint in which he is offered for a claiming price of $12,500.
Lone Star Park launched the club at the start of the meet, and it won with its first runner, Lodi Street – who was claimed from the group. The club came back and won with its second starter, Peej. J.R. Caldwell trains for the Lone Star Park Racing Club.
“It’s so good for racing,” Caldwell said. “Talk about 80 owners who are happy with two back-to-back wins. It’s good for ownership. It’s good for the public eye. Word will spread with them.”
Caldwell said about four club members have expressed interest in racing their own horses. The club was originally set to disperse at the close of the Lone Star meet July 22, but Caldwell said late last month he would love to see it carry into the fall meet at sister track Remington Park in Oklahoma City.
“With success comes more opportunity,” he said. “There’s money for them to continue, and with Remington being affiliated with Lone Star, I would think there’s no reason they couldn’t move forward from that standpoint. There’s not been a meeting on that, but Remington’s only three hours away, and a lot of them would go up there. I think it’s too good for racing not to continue. We’ve got the capital to keep it rolling. I would say we let it roll.”
Lane Luzzi has the mount on Fred’s Lucky Boy, who is looking for his fourth straight win at the meet.
Also on the Friday card, stakes winners Turbo Street, Pacific Typhoon, Fact Finding, and Perfect to Please meet in the fifth race, an optional $40,000 claimer at a mile on turf. The feature figures to produce starters for stakes at Remington.
Turbo Street won last year’s $100,000 Remington Green, while Pacific Typhoon won the Red Earth Stakes and Oklahoma Classics Turf there in 2017.
