Lone Star cancels Sunday card after first race

Lone Star Park near Dallas has canceled racing until further notice, it was announced after the first race Sunday.
The Grand Prairie, Texas, track was scheduled to put on a nine-race program. There were four restricted stakes on the card.
Patrons on hand were able to remain in the grandstand for simulcasting. Simulcast operations will continue going forward, on the second floor of the grandstand, according to track officials.
It was unclear Sunday afternoon the reason for the cancellation, or if Lone Star would be able to race Monday. The track also is scheduled to race Tuesday and Wednesday this week. The meet runs through Aug. 11.
Texas has seen a significant spike in coronavirus cases, and last week the state’s governor issued an order requiring that masks be worn in all public places.
