Lone Star cancels Friday card due to rain, lightning
Lone Star Park was forced to cancel its fifth through ninth races Friday night due to heavy rains and lightning, according to Diantha Brazzell, spokeswoman for the Grand Prairie, Texas, track. It was the fifth full or partial card cancellation at the meet, she said. The cancellations have all come at the hands of inclement weather.
A storm system moved into areas of North Texas not long after Lone Star’s races started Friday night. The weather pattern has been the norm for the better part of the last two months. North Texas experienced near-record rainfall in May in a development that kept Lone Star off the turf for the bulk of the month. It has also been a wet June.
Brazzell said that aside from Friday night, other full or partial card cancellations this season came April 17, April 18, April 24, and May 23. There have been a total of 25 races lost at this meet, which continues through July 19.
