London Tower comes with late rally to win Fury

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – London Tower overcame a tardy start to capture the $150,000 Fury Stakes after a furious wide rally under Alan Garcia at Woodbine on Sunday.
London Tower broke about three lengths behind the others in the seven-furlong sprint for 3-year-old fillies and settled into stride to trail the eight-horse field early. Starless Night set slow fractions while being tracked by Galina Point, and they ran one-two until deep stretch, where they were overhauled by a charging London Tower, who scored by a half-length over the 41-1 outsider Starless Night.
“I was a little worried because she was uncomfortable inside,” Garcia said. “She was No. 2 [in the gate], and it was taking so long for the break. As soon as we broke, she was a step slow, and we ended up last. So I thought I would ride her patient, and if she was good enough, she would come back on. And she did it.”
Galina Point finished a close third, while the second choice Brooklynsway came on belatedly for fourth after losing ground on the turn.
London Tower paid $6.70 as the favorite and completed the distance in 1:22.43. She banked $90,000 for owner-trainer-breeder Steve Owens.
“She getting better and better,” Owens said.
