Locket working well for Ballerina

VANCOUVER, British Columbia – Trainer Frank Barroby was pleased with Locket’s five-furlong work in 1:00.20 over a wet-fast track last Tuesday at Hastings. Locket is coming off a win in the $50,000 Delta Colleen on Sept. 14 and will be one of the favorites in the Grade 3, $100,000 Ballerina on Oct. 13. The 1 1/8-mile Ballerina is one of four stakes races on the Canadian Thanksgiving Day card.
“She worked super,” said Barroby. “She loves that kind of track, and she just seems to get better in the fall. She could be tough in the Ballerina it if comes up wet.”
The Delta Colleen was the first stakes win for Locket, who has been knocking on the door since she finished second in last year’s $100,000 British Columbia Oaks.
Prior to her win in the Delta Colleen, she was coming off second-place finishes in the $50,000 B.C. Cup Distaff on Aug. 4 and a conditional allowance race Aug. 18.
“She tries every time, and she’s just been unlucky not to have won a stakes before now,” said Barroby.
Following the same pattern he used prior to her win in the Delta Colleen, Barroby said he was planning to give Locket a quick half-mile move a few days before the Ballerina.
