Lobsta on a roll with back-to-back stakes wins

OZONE PARK, N.Y. – After Lobsta achieved his second stakes victory in four weeks in Saturday’s Say Florida Sandy Stakes, trainer Gary Sciacca was in no hurry Sunday morning to select a next spot for the 4-year-old New York-bred.
“I was just happy to see him run two good races back to back,” Sciacca said.
Lobsta actually crossed the wire second, a neck behind My Boy Tate in the seven-furlong Say Florida Sandy. My Boy Tate was disqualified and placed fourth for interfering with Chestertown, who finished fourth.
Lobsta earned an 89 Beyer Speed Figure for the Say Florida Sandy. Lobsta earned a 95 for his half-length victory over My Boy Tate in the Thunder Rumble division of the New York Stallion Series in December.
“He probably had to regress a little bit from running such a big number last time,” Sciacca said.
Among the most likely options for Lobsta is the $100,000 Haynesfield for New York-breds going a mile. That race isn’t until March 20, so Sciacca must decide whether to wait or look elsewhere.

One option for My Boy Tate could be the Hollie Hughes, a six-furlong race for New York-breds here on Feb. 19.
◗ Barese earned a 79 Beyer Speed Figure for his victory in Sunday’s $100,000 Rego Park Stakes. Barese, who was away for seven months after undergoing surgery to remove a knee chip, will likely run next in the Gander Stakes for New York-bred 3-year-olds on Feb. 12.
