Lloyds Logic was impressive in winning the $70,000 Gottstein Futurity on the final day of live racing at Emerald Downs on Sunday. He paid $9.80 for his dominating 7 1/4-length victory over Chuckanut Bay in the 1 1/16-mile race for 2-year-olds. Ridden by Jose Zunino for trainer Tom Wenzel, Lloyds Logic stumbled leaving the starting gate from post 10 in the 11-horse field. However, he quickly recovered and was able to clear the field and get to the rail before the first turn. He posted a half-mile time of 46.77 while under pressure from Ice Tower and, after repelling a bid by Chuckanut Bay on the stretch turn, he drew off to win decisively. Chuckanut Bay broke a step slow from post 3 and was shuffled back early, moved into a stalking position from along the rail coming out of the first turn, and could not keep up after looking like a serious threat going into the stretch turn. It's Turbo rallied to finish a distant third. The final time was 1:43.38. "I was worried about the outside post but Jose did a great job of getting him over to the rail," Wenzel said. It was the fourth win on the 11-race card for the veteran trainer. "We have had a great year and I have to give credit to the gallop guys and all the grooms," Wenzel said. :: Bet the races with a $200 First Deposit Match and FREE Formulator PPs! Join DRF Bets. Papa's Golden Boy was able to carry his substantial speed all the way going 1 1/16 miles in the $50,000 Muckleshoot Classic for 3-year-olds and up. He paid $7.40 for his neck victory over the Wenzel-trained Slew's Tiz Whiz and posted a final time of 1:41.82. With Kevin Radke aboard, Papa's Golden Boy posted a moderate half-mile time, especially for him, of 46.40 seconds. He opened up a clear lead on the stretch turn, had his lead diminish to three lengths at the eighth pole before finding the wire at the right time. Slew's Tiz Whiz stumbled leaving the starting gate but recovered quickly, settled into a stalking position from along the rail, moved off the rail to make his move at the top of the stretch and just missed. It was another 10 1/4 lengths back to Naval Escort, who came from well back to finish third. It was the first time the 6-year-old gelding by Harbor the Gold was able to carry his speed a middle distance. He is trained by Vince Gibson. "This means a lot to me," Gibson said. "I took a look at the big screen at the sixteenth pole and liked what I saw," Radke said. Papa's Golden Boy is owned by Lusk Racing. Blazingbellablu was making her first start since June 26 when she came from a stalking position to win the $50,000 Washington Cup Filly and Mares. She paid $4.20 and posted a final time of 1:42.70 in the 1 1/16-mile race. With Radke up, Blazingbellablu bided her time while Zippin Sevenz, who was being chased by Brilliant Bird, zipped through a half-mile in 45.90 seconds. She started to move into serious contention on the stretch turn, collared Zippin Sevenz soon after turning for home, and edged clear late to defeat her stubborn rival by a half-length. Zippin Sevenz set a fast pace and was game in defeat. Emerald Sea rallied late to finish third. "Going down the backstretch I knew I could have those two anytime I wanted," said Radke, referring to Zippin Sevenz and Brilliant Bird. "When I worked her a couple of weeks ago, I knew she was going to win." A 4-year-old daughter of Grazen, Blazinbellablu races for Charlie Essex and Petra Lewin. She is trained by Essex.
