ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Live Lucky ($3) made short work of his six rivals with a decisive score in the $100,000 Lake Superior, the first of two stakes on Sunday’s Woodbine card for Ontario-sired 3-year-olds.
With Rafael Hernandez riding for trainer Kevin Attard, Live Lucky made the lead entering the turn of the six-furlong main turf sprint. The son of Perfect Timber was pressed by Ready to Collect before drawing off in the final furlong to win by 4 1/4 lengths, in a time of 1:09.86 over the firm ground.
Summer Commander came from an inside stalking position to secure second over 35-1 Jo Daddy. Ready to Collect faded to fourth in the seven-horse field of colts and geldings.
“He’s an unbelievable horse,” Hernandez said. “You can see down the lane, he was just cruising. When I asked him, he picked it up right away.”

Live Lucky was adding Lasix to his arsenal and banked $60,000 for the partnership of Exline-Border Racing, Michael Jawl and Aaron Kennedy.
*** Hernandez also took the $100,000 Thunder Bay for 3-year-old fillies on another front-running 1-2 shot, Olivia Rose, for trainer Mark Casse.
Little Teddy tracked Olivia Rose throughout in the six-furlong main turf event and took a run at her in midstretch, but Olivia Rose held her at bay in a 1 1/2-length win, in a quick time of 1:08.71. Tabloid Material finished another six lengths back in third in the six-horse event.
Olivia Rose ($3.10) earned $60,000 for owner Gabe Grossberg, who also bred the daughter of Silent Name.
