Live In the Dream upsets Nunthorpe at 40-1
Live In the Dream, a 40-1 shot, made all the running and won the Group 1, $630,000 Nunthorpe Stakes on Friday at York Racecourse in England.
It was a first top-level success for the horse, 23-year-old jockey Sean Kirrane, and trainer Adam West. Living the dream, indeed.
Live In the Dream was making his Group 1 debut in his 18th start. He had done his best work over faster-playing courses and caught good-to-firm turf that clearly suited him Friday. Favored Highfield Princess, who won the 2022 Nunthorpe, had aim on Live In the Dream through the final furlong but the longshot held her clear by one length. Bradsell made a menacing mid-race run but failed to sustain it and checked in third. Live In the Dream, a son of Prince of Lir and Approaching Autumn, by New Approach, paid $83.50 in American wagering.
The Nunthorpe is part of the Breeders’ Cup Challenge Series for the Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint but Live In the Dream as of Friday was not Breeders’ Cup-eligible.
