Little Miss Lupe scores 9-1 upset in Susan B. Anthony

The early money that dropped Little Miss Lupe from 15-1 to 2-1 was also smart money.
A 5-year-old mare whose most recent win came for a $25,000 claiming tag and who finished sixth at 36-1 in her only previous stakes appearance at Finger Lakes last fall, Little Miss Lupe surged in deep stretch to upset Saturday's $50,000 Susan B. Anthony Stakes for New York-bred fillies and mares.
After bettors pounded Little Miss Lupe early, she drifted up to 9-1 odds and returned $21 to her backers after covering six furlongs in 1:13.32. Jeremias Flores, who was aboard when Little Miss Lupe won her last start of 2014 at Finger Lakes, brought his mount down the middle of the track in the stretch and she rallied from fourth in the final furlong to prevail by a half-length over Alwaysinstilettos. Jazzminegem, the 1-2 favorite who got off to a slow start, won a photo for third by a nose with 16-1 outsider Mom’s Law.
Trained by Henry Neville for Tage Boohit, Little Miss Lupe is now 8 for 40 lifetime with earnings of $185,164. Six of her wins have come at Finger Lakes.
