Little Miss Curlin backed up an impressive debut win with a stakes victory Friday, darting to a five-length win over Wickedwithbourbon in the $100,000 Donovan L. Ferguson Memorial at Fair Grounds. It was another half-length back in third to Liteupthenite. The Ferguson was a six-furlong race for 2-year-old fillies bred in Louisiana. Little Miss Curlin ($5.80) and El Sunshine took the field through fractions of 21.69 seconds for the opening quarter-mile and 46.09 for the half. Little Miss Curlin began to assert herself in the stretch and pulled clear late, covering the distance on a fast track in 1:11.45. “She was just on cruise control the whole way,” winning rider Jareth Loveberry said in an interview conducted by the publicity department at Fair Grounds. Patrick Devereux Jr. trains Little Miss Curlin for her breeder, Coteau Grove Farms. She is a daughter of Charlatan and won her career debut by 4 1/4 lengths last month in a maiden special weight at Delta Downs. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
