Little Daddy eyes Sir Bear, Belmont

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – One of the horses pointing for the Sir Bear, a one-mile overnight stakes here on Kentucky Derby Day, is Little Daddy, who is unbeaten in two starts. Trainer Carlo Vaccarezza said Wednesday that if Little Daddy were to run well in that race, he’d strongly consider pointing him for the Belmont Stakes five weeks later.
“I have three horses to possibly bring to New York for Belmont Stakes Day: Little Daddy for the Belmont, Little Mike for the Manhattan, and Little Daniella for a 3-year-old filly stakes on the turf,” said Vaccarezza. “Little Daddy is by Scat Daddy out of a Lemon Drop Kid mare, so he shouldn’t have any problem going the distance. My philosophy is that every single year all these 3-year-olds run in all these big preps and then the Kentucky Derby and Preakness, and what you get in the Belmont, most of the time, is a bunch of tired horses. I think if you have a fresh horse going into the race, you have a huge edge.”
