Litfin's Saratoga plays for Sunday, July 30

Angara relished the yielding ground, and received a major-league ride from budding star Fernando Jara to win the Diana in a blanket finish at 7-2. We linked the winner with favored Lady of Venice in exactas, but the latter was outfinished after breaking slowest and racing widest on both turns under Julian Leparoux; despite the wide trip, she missed by a length for all the money in a thrilling renewal of the Grade 1 event.

Of course, it would've been a bit more thrilling had Lady of Venice found that little extra something and gotten into the number.

We move on to Sunday. Once again, the status of grass racing is uncertain as this is written early Saturday evening. That is because the courses took another round of rain, thanks to a sudden squall that arrived just as the field raced into the clubhouse turn for race 3.

I've got to stay away from the grass races given the situation, and this really limits our options because five of them are scheduled. What's more, the four dirt races include a pair of 2-year-old maiden sprints, and it's hard to develop a strong opinion about those races without a look at the toteboard and pre-race appearances.

RACE 4

Cherokee Dreamer is coming off a second-place finish in her return from a layoff. She has the top Beyer Speed Figure (84), and if the track still contains moisture, which it probably will, she also has the top Tomlinson rating (407) for wet tracks.

Maybe it's just that simple.
