Litfin’s preview: Triple carryover for pick six
The pick six was not hit Saturday, Sunday, or Monday, resulting in a triple carryover of $227,192 as the new week begins Wednesday.
Five of the 10 horses in Monday’s final race were covered, but not longshot winner Miss Motivation, who took a tight decision from Flirtatious Spring, one of the covered horses.
The pick six begins at 1:47 p.m. Eastern with race 4, a wide-open restricted claimer for generally unreliable types that is scheduled for one mile on turf. Keep an eye on the weather as the forecast calls for overnight fog and a 30 percent chance of light rain early in the day.
Races 6 and 9 are for New York-breds and scheduled for 1 1/16 miles on turf.
In race 6, the multiple stakes winner Compliance Officer will be favored in a $40,000 optional claimer with second-level allowance conditions. It will be the softest spot the 8-year-old gelding has seen in quite a while, provided it stays on grass and his old rival Street Game fails to draw in from the also-eligible list.
In race 9, an over-subscribed race for 2-year-old maidens, Fulmer will be the choice over Gear Jammer and No Texting on the basis of a promising runner-up finish behind odds-on Kerjillion first time out.
Right back
Miss the boat when My Adonis rolled to a seven-length win Saturday? Fear not, you can bet the 5-year-old right back in race 3 on Wednesday, and the bold-faced ink on his top last-out Beyer Speed Figure of 86 is barely dry.
My Adonis, the 2012 Gotham runner-up, was claimed from David Jacobson out of a big win in Saturday’s third race and was promptly entered back that very same afternoon by his new connections, Vincent Scuderi and Chip Dutrow.
Drawn outside in a field of six, with speed merchants like Glickman, Green Gratto, and Abra expected to duke it out early, My Adonis may have the back class to flex his muscles again on the double-jump to $40,000.
Third time the charm?
Knockher Off, beaten twice at Belmont on sealed wet tracks, will be looking for some cooperation from Mother Nature third time back from a 10-month layoff for Jimmy Jerkens in race 5.
Knockher Off should appreciate getting back to the Big A, where he posted a lifetime-best Beyer of 87 on the main track last November, and he projects for a favorable pace setup with Big Guy Ian and Billy the Bull expected to contest the early issue.
Dyker Beach, who also caught wet tracks twice across town for the red-hot David Jacobson, looms an exacta factor with a career slate of 2-10-1 from 23 starts.
Old roommates square off
Ground Force and Writingonthewall, who shared the same shed row earlier this year and have combined for 25 wins and more than $1 million in earnings, clash in race 8.
Ground Force was claimed from Jacobson out of a neck loss Sept. 6, but Jacobson haltered the gelding right back 27 days later. Notably, Ground Force won off a Jacobson claim first time out at Aqueduct’s 2013 fall meet.
Jacobson lost Writingonthewall to Michelle Nevin in May, and the durable 9-year-old gelding has since won both of his dirt sprints. In fact, Writingonthewall has won his last five one-turn races on dirt dating back to August 2013.
Leilani’s Ticket, who has won or placed in 4 of 5 starts on the Big A’s main track, is a stretch threat for Jamie Ness.
