Linny Kate favored off layoff in Sunday allowance

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – Chad Brown and Todd Pletcher are among the high-profile trainers represented in the Sunday feature at Gulfstream, a $51,000 turf route that attracted a full field of 12 fillies and mares going 1 1/16 miles.

Linny Kate, returning from an eight-month layoff for Brown, surely will be favored with leading jockey Irad Ortiz Jr. aboard from post 1 in the only allowance on an 11-race card that starts at 12:40 p.m. Eastern. Pletcher steps in with Bean Counter, a fringe contender in race 10, part of a 20-cent Rainbow 6 (races 6-11) that starts anew with an empty jackpot following a Saturday forceout.
More dry weather has been forecast for Sunday, meaning all six turf races are likely to be run over firm going.
Unlike in recent years, there will be no holiday card at Gulfstream this coming Monday, Presidents Day. After Sunday, the track goes dark for two days before another five-day week starts Wednesday.
◗ At least seven fillies and mares are expected for the Grade 3, $100,000 Royal Delta next Saturday as the lone stakes of the Feb. 20-21 weekend. Probables for the 1 1/16-mile main-track race are Bajan Girl, Dream Marie, Eres Tu, Gibberish, Hallawallah, Mrs. Danvers, and Queen Nekia.
