Line of Vision up in time in Victorian Queen Stakes

Emily Shields Line of Vision and jockey Eurico Da Silva win the Victorian Queen Stakes by half a length.

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Line of Vision came charging from well back under Eurico Da Silva to notch her first stakes win in the $125,400 Victorian Queen at Woodbine on Saturday.

Line of Vision ($9.60) caught another daughter of Court Vision, 39-1 shot Without a Doubt, in the final strides to prevail by a half-length in 1:11.08 for six furlongs. Without a Doubt, who set honest fractions on a clear lead, finished a neck ahead of third-place finisher She’s the Berries. Mega Monster outran the favored Rosemere for fourth in the nine-horse field of Ontario-sired 2-year-old fillies.

Line of Vision gave trainer Andrew Smith his third career stakes victory.

“Andrew told me just to follow the race, and let [her be] where she felt comfortable,” Da Silva said. “She was very comfortable where she was. When we turned for home, she really kicked very hard.”

Line of Vision, who earned $75,000 for Joey Gee Thoroughbreds, was coming off a wide-closing third in the 6 1/2-furlong Muskoka Stakes.

“We were shortening up here, and that worried me,” Smith said. “We wanted to run longer, but this was the race to go into. I think she’ll go longer.”
