Lincoln track report

LINCOLN, Neb. - With four weekends of racing remaining, Lincoln is on pace to post solid gains in attendance and handle this summer. Ontrack attendance is up 7 percent over a year ago, with a daily average of 1,691. The ontrack handle is up 11 percent, with a daily average of $52,792, and offtrack wagering is up more than 22 percent, to $49,761 daily. Total wagering on Lincoln's live racing is averaging $102,553 per day, up 16 percent from last year.

Field size has also increased this year, with an average of 8.6 starters per race compared to 7.5 starters last year.

The track's signal is sent to the four other tracks in the state - Fonner Park in Grand Island, Horsemen's Park in Omaha, Columbus's Agricultural Park, and Horsemen's Atokad Downs in South Sioux City - and to out-of-state tracks Canterbury Park and Prairie Meadows.

* Leading rider Jerry Carkeek had three winners last weekend and has a 35-29 advantage over Armando Martinez in the rider standings. Alex Grand is next with 23 wins and Dennis Collins has 21. Jose Figueroa arrived from Texas and was to begin riding on Thursday.

David Anderson has begun to pull away in the trainer standings with an 18-11 margin over Marv Johnson. Jim Compton and Herb Riecken are in the hunt with nine wins each.
