Lincoln Race Course moves one-race meet to Monday
Lincoln Race Course’s token one-race meet has been rescheduled for Monday after heavy rain forced the cancellation of Thursday’s card.
Post time for the rescheduled race will be 4:50 p.m. Central.
The Lincoln, Neb. venue hosts a single one-furlong parimutuel race each year to maintain its simulcast license for the following year, with long-term plans for the site including a one-mile course and a longer meet.
“The safety of the jockeys and horses is the utmost priority, and with Mother Nature being uncooperative this evening, this difficult decision was made not to hold the race as scheduled,” the track said on its Facebook page.
Thursday’s race offered a $6,500 purse for Nebraska-breds ages 4 and up, with a claiming tag of $3,500. Among the three entrants was Husker Ridge, who gained notoriety after last year’s one-furlong race when the mare unseated her rider after the wire and escaped the track’s property. She was later found two miles away standing in a driveway, suffering only minor scrapes.
