Lincoln: Bach's Homebrew tries to remain unbeaten locally in HBPA Stakes

Bach’s Homebrew seeks his third straight stakes win when he heads a field of six older horses in the $17,500 HBPA Stakes going a mile and 70 yards at Lincoln Race Course on Saturday afternoon.

Bach’s Homebrew, unbeaten over the local surface in five career appearances, continued his streak on June 19 with a late-running head victory in the President’s Cup Stakes. Trained by Larry Staroscik for Don Everett’s Bluestem Farm, Bach’s Homebrew has won 9 of 14 career starts, including three stakes this year. He romped home by nine lengths in the Big Red Mile Stakes locally on May 30 and the extra 70 yards should be easily within his reach. Regular rider Chris Fackler will be aboard.

Tenth Power, trained by Milton Gaede, was third in this race a year ago, then won the $50,000 Omaha Stakes at Horsemen’s Park in his following start. Tenth Power was second in the Dowd Mile at Fonner Park earlier this year, then captured the Coor Starter there going 1 1/8 miles for his lone win of the year. In his last start, Tenth Power challenged into the stretch but faded to finish third in a $5,000 starter allowance at this distance. Tenth Power will have regular rider Ashley Dill up.

With the temporary shutdown at Canterbury Park in Minnesota, Miguel Silva will ship in Mad About Fuzz off a winning effort against $10,000 company there on June 18 and will bring in rider Lori Keith to ride. Mad About Fuzz is a confirmed front-runner who will be making his first start beyond six furlongs this year. Mad About Fuzz owns a mark of 3-0-1 from 7 starts at this distance in his career and could be a threat to take this field all the way on the lead.
