L'Imperator continues Brown's hot streak with Fort Marcy win

L’Imperator gave trainer Chad Brown his second Grade 2 win on the Belmont Park card Saturday when he led throughout to capture the $200,000 Fort Marcy.
The win over the inner turf course came a few races after Virginia Joy rolled by 14 1/4-lengths in the $200,000 Sheepshead Bay.
Brown had won a total of four races on the card through the ninth race and had an additional stakes starter later on the program Saturday.
L’Imperator ($22.60) moved to the fore soon after the start of the Fort Marcy and over yielding ground in the 1 1/8-mile race set fractions of 25.49 seconds for the opening quarter, 52.78 for the half-mile, and 1:19.65 for six furlongs. He dug in through the lane and covered the distance in 1:59.72.
Eric Cancel was aboard L’Imperator, who won by 3 1/4 lengths over Sacred Life. It was another half-length back in third to Glynn County.

L’Imperator is a son of Holy Roman Emperor who races for Madaket Stables, Wonder Stables, and Robert LaPenta. It was the first stakes win for the horse, who is now 6 for 12 for earnings of $292,941.
Brown’s other winners came in the fourth with Gina Romantica ($4.60) and the sixth with Efficiency ($3.20).
