Lieutenant Dan takes command to win Echo Eddie Stakes

ARCADIA, Calif. – Lieutenant Dan made his stakes debut a winning one, pulling clear through the lane to capture the $200,702 Echo Eddie Stakes for 3-year-old California-breds on Saturday at Santa Anita.
Lieutenant Dan ($10.40) was always prominent, took commend in upper stretch, and was never in danger through the final furlong while prevailing by 2 1/4 lengths over Principe Carlo, who finished a half-length in front of third-place Listing.
Foster Boi, the 5-2 favorite, was fourth, then came Prodigal Son, Daddy Jones, Tap the Wire, Midnight Special, Oliver, and Moon House.
Geovanni Franco rode Lieutenant Dan, who completed 6 1/2 furlongs on the fast main track in 1:17.46.

The win was the third in six starts for Lieutenant Dan, whose two prior victories were a maiden race here on Jan. 13 and an allowance race on synthetic at Golden Gate Fields on March 23.
Lieutenant Dan is a gelding by Grazen. He was bred and is owned by Nick Alexander and is trained by Steve Miyadi.
