Liberty Park has makings of good one
DEL MAR, Calif. – Liberty Park, a full brother to stakes winner Prospect Park, makes his debut Sunday in race 3, a maiden race at one mile on turf for 2-year-olds. The race was split into two divisions, with the second one being run as race 9.
Liberty Park, a son of Tapit out of the Bertrando mare Quiet Romance, is trained by Clifford Sise Jr., who trains Prospect Park.
“He can run,” Sise said. “I’d have preferred to run him on dirt, and there was a race on dirt a week ago, but I wanted to get one more gate work into him before I ran him.”
Sise also has the first-time starter Tastemaker in race 9. He is by Candy Ride and out of Sweet Catomine, who was the Eclipse Award-winning 2-year-old filly in 2004.
“He can run, but he’s not as focused at this point as Liberty Park,” Sise said.
Sise also on Sunday will send out the 3-year-old filly Lady Pamela, who moves into a first-level allowance, race 5, after winning her turf debut against maidens.
“She ran like she was supposed to last time,” Sise said. “She was more focused last time. She knows what to do now. Down here, she’s been bucking and squealing. She’s been training really well.”
Lady Pamela is by Tapit and is out of the Storm Cat mare Life Is Sweet, best known for winning the Breeders’ Cup Ladies’ Classic in 2009.
◗ Sobradora Inc., a two-time Group 1 winner in her native Argentina, will bid for a Grade 1 win in this country in the $300,000 Matriarch Stakes on Sunday, which could be her final start, trainer Simon Callaghan said Friday. Callaghan said that Sobradora Inc., owned by Katsumi Yoshida, will head to Japan to become a broodmare next year.
