Liberty Lover outfought Lux during a stretch-long duel to extend his winning streak to four races by capturing the $85,000 Red Hedeman Mile for 2-year-old New Mexico-breds Saturday at Sunland Park. Lux, the 5-1 fourth choice in a field of eight, was within a head of Liberty Lover after six furlongs in 1:12.48 and stayed that close to the favorite throughout the final quarter-mile with Liberty Lover ($3.80) prevailing by a neck under Ry Eikleberry in 1:40.28. It was another 1 1/2 lengths back to Desert Gambler. Liberty Lover, trained by Johnny Nall, has won four consecutive starts since September, including three restricted stakes.
