OZONE PARK, N.Y. – Jose Lezcano and his long-time agent Jason Beides have parted ways. Lezcano has retained the services of P.J. Campo to represent him. Campo is the agent for Javier Castellano and Eric Cancel. In New York, agents may only represent two journeyman jockeys at one time. Campo will retain Castellano, who has been sidelined since Aug. 31 due to injury but could return to race-riding on Oct. 18. Cancel is looking for a new agent. Beides had represented Lezcano for 19 years, with the exception of one brief break-up about a decade ago. Beides said the reason for the split was “irreconcilable differences. . . . It was a good run. There are no hard feelings, I wish [Lezcano] the best.” “Sometimes in life a change is good. We’ll see what happens,” Lezcano said. Since 2004, Lezcano has won 3,330 races in North America including 153 graded stakes, the most recent one aboard Scottish Lassie in the Grade 1 Frizette on Oct. 5 at Aqueduct. Lezcano won three Grade 1 stakes, including the Breeders’ Cup Mile, on Horse of the Year Wise Dan in 2013. This year, Lezcano has 109 wins from 610 mounts with $8.38 million in purse earnings, the latter ranking him 19th nationally. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
